Want This House

This house is simple in its appearance. But it’s what happens when the power is switched on that makes it amazing. Designed by Alex de Reijke of dRMM Architects for the Russells in North Suffolk.sliding-house-131

Want This Box Set

Posted in Architecture on October 4, 2008 by thewantblog

If you like to read or just really dig mid-century architecture and design, this needs to be on the top of your list. Arts & Architecture was a magazine published for a short period of time from 1945 – 1967 and was a key instrument in the Case Study House Program. The magazine covered not only architecture, but art, music, social issues, and politics. This may be a bit of a stretch, but I liken it to Dwell Magazine. This is the first of two box sets that is available from Taschen. This set is a whopping 118 issues that covers 1945 – 1954, 10 years, 10 boxes. Each is exactly like the  original publication right down to the advertisements. The box set is limited to 5000 for a mere $700.00. I did the math and it comes out to about $6 an issue. So this is definately affordable. The last set will be released sometime in 2009 – 2010. You can find out more about it here.

Want This Pre-Fab Structure

The Kithaus is nothing new if you’ve been checking out the DWR website. But as you may realize, the holidays are upon us. That means parties, and best of all, visits from aunts, uncles who snore, and roam the hallways in boxers that read “love machine”. The Kithaus has always been appealing since it would end  the need for a guest bedroom. When not used but unannounced visitors, it makes a great cabana. Because it is modular, you could connect a few, and add a bathroom. This my friend would eliminate the awkward run in with your mother-in-law in the shower. Prices range from about $30K for the base model and about $45K which includes all of the bells and whistles i.e. canopies, louvers and a deck.

Want This House

Posted in Architecture on August 17, 2008 by thewantblog

OK, I’m moving! I found this house here on Arch Daily. This house is comprised of two things we like: clean minimal interiors and outdoor furniture that can kill you with one false move. I have always loved strong, rich colors, but my desire for pure white interiors grows everyday. Living with a couple of kids will do that to you. This space is not at all sterile, but more clean, pure, and fresh; sorry I’m starting to sound like a Summers Eve commercial, but I think you get the picture.  I am immediately calmed when I look at the images of this house. I’m packing up and heading to Italy. Click here to see and read more.
