Call me crazy, but I’m about to hit the skatepark again…

my daughter has gotten bit by the BMX Freestyle bug, and now every waking moment she want to be at the skate park with her bike. No it’s not because of the boys, but because of the rush. Our most recent trip had her dropping in on the half-pipe, and doing sweet little runs. I was forbidden from hanging around inside the park because I didn’t have a bike or board.  I immediately got home and started doing some research to find my next bike, and came across a nice little number by a company called Eastern Bikes. They offer a ton of great bikes, but because of my size, a little 20″ would not cut it. What I found was a nice ride called the Traildigger. It’s big beefy and perfect for riding ramps with my offspring.  Priced at way under a grand, it’s perfect for ramps or kicking it in the streets on the weekends. I was able to get my local bike shop Transit (formaly West Village Bicycles) to track one down and order it for me. If you get one, meet me at the skate park this weekend.

I am back on the fence again.  Everyone is talking about the new iPhone, and I know it’s pretty cool and all, but.  However, after seeing this iPhone case it alone is really making me change my mind.  Believe it or not, it cost as much as the iPhone itself! Factron a company in Japan has introduced the new Quattro for the 3G iPhone. It is constructed of aircraft grade duralumin, and backed with calfskin. Not only does it have the best aesthetic of any iPhone case I have ever seen, you can also get interchangeable lenses for the case too. This does obviously cost extra, but you get additional options such as fisheye, wide angle and macro. It kinda has the feel of a vintage steamer trunk or a vintage camera. Wonder if they’ll come out with one for the Blackberry?

A lot of sneakerheads like myself have been waiting for this for a while now. And finally we get some first solid looks at the collaboration between PUMA and Sergio Rossi. Sergio has done collaborations with the likes of Versace and Dolce & Gabbana in the past. So knowing that you would assume that these would be some pretty slick sneaks. You’re right. No crazy colors like my Monster Pack, just clean and simple suede and patent leather. This time they took the sewing machine to the Puma Clyde and First Round, giving them a nice refined look. They are finally available now at Colette in France. Be sure to check out the womens shoes that they did together that have been released in the US, they’re Bananas!

Sometimes minimal is good. In this case it’s very good.

So my kids have been without a T.V. (got grounded) for about 5 months now, which also means I’ve been without a T.V. for 5 months. We won’t even get into the NBA Playoffs. I’m still kinda sick about missing just about every game. But as a man of my word the T.V. stayed in the garage.

Well I am just about at my breaking point, and have started shopping for a new T.V. Believe it or not, it will be something slightly modest, Nothing over a 36″. This will replace our old Sony 27″ tube T.V. The new problem that I found was buying a T.V. is kinda like a snowball effect. You start with the T.V.  then it’s a new DVD player, Tevo, etc. etc. And on top of that, you have to find a place to put the darn thing. Most of us have visions of mounting a flat panel on the wall. But if you’ve looked into the cost of that, well, there’s another pain in the arse. So finding this Muro Media stand came as a pleasant surprise. At just under 600 bucks, you can attach it you your wall with just a few dry wall screws, and it can hold up to 4 different components. Nice. What make this unit so cool is the fact that by its design, all of your wires for your T.V. and components are hidden in the back cavity behind the unit. You use the basic wall mounting hardware to attach to the unit, and then there are the 4 floating shelves to hold your components. And because it comes unfinished, you are free to paint it, wallpaper it, or tag it with some cool graffiti. You could even bedazzle it! End result, a clean, simple and minimal wall unit. And if you move or re-arrange your space, you just move it and re-mount it. Simple! You can stop by or call a local Design Within Reach to chat with someone there about it.

Muro Media Stand

This is a pretty cool helmet. Released a while back ago (I’ve been busy) it has integrated the rear and front lights needed for riding at night. Since I got a ticket for riding without a helmet a while back ago I’m really big into helmets. Plus I’m not really any good to my kids all broken up in the hospital. To top it off, it’s not very high at all on the “nerd” factor. You can pick up the Lazor Urbanize N’ Light at your local Lazor dealer. I’ll be checking with mine first before I go digging on-line for it. $100.00 ain’t so bad to keep your egg in one piece.

This baby is just a little too classy to go muddin’,… but it could!

I’m not really sure why you would NOT go muddin’ in this thing. Except for the fact that it’s a $95,000.00 vehicle. Believe it or not these British vehicles was first introduced back in 1948, the same year as Eero Saarinen’s Womb Chair. There was a lot of great stuff going on that year. All of which no one had any idea that today they would be considered such classics.

Back to Land Rover’s Defender 90. Land Roverwill drop about 850 of these limited edition Defenders called Fire and Ice around the globe. “Fire” will  be available in a special Vesuvius Orange metallic paint, the “Ice” edition in Alaska white, both colors will be offset by Santorini black accents. Some other notable features are Recaro bucket seats, Alcantaratrim and color coded head and tail lights. The list goes on, I think they tried to shove everything conceivable option into the interior of this vehicle. Which is NICE! What is still truly amazing is that the Defender is still almost all assembled by hand due to the fact that it has no unibodystructure. To me this has a such very cool modern but vintage vibe to it, and is sooo much cooler than those damn Hummers you see rollin’ around town (I’m not event gonna link to it I hate ‘em so much). Find your local Rover dealer, and get on the list, cause at $95,000.00 even in this economy they’ll be gone pretty quick.

Yes, another wooden bicycle.

Okes is a South-African slang-word that is used to describe a younger generation. Guess it’s like our version of “Hipster“. (which I think is too funny) I really like this bike. This one is made of solid oak, and goes the direction of a BMX Cruiser instead of a track bike styles like you’ve seen here in the past. Designed by Dutch designer Reinier Korstanje. Looks like it has shown at all of the major design shows over the last year, so I’m hoping that I will get lucky enough to see it at ICFF next week.

A couple of year ago in NY we saw some dude dressed up like a Praying Mantis wearing these. I just came across these and they’re hella dope. Don’t know what I would use them for or where I would wear them, but I want ‘em! Designed by Kim Graham Studios.

I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak at these last November. They’re even doper than the prototypes I had seen.

A couple of years ago PUMA released the Cheech Wizard on the Clydes (I’ve got the red ones). This years they drop the sidekick   Da Lizard on the PUMA Mids.  This has been a long ongoing collaboration with the son of Vaughn Bode Mark. There will be released in limited quantities across the US. Unfortunately nowhere in or near Dallas. Lucky for me I’ll be in NYC the day that they’re released.  I’m set on the blue colorway. I’ve got the perfect suit to rock them with too. (that ones for you Evan)

Yes, another wooden bicycle. They just keep getting better…

I’ve posted a want for another wooden bike a while ago. You can see it here. But like I mentioned, they just keep getting better. This time product designer Arndt Menke does a really good job with his diploma thesis on the wooden bicycle. The result is something that could actually be produced. Gosh I sure hope so. And a note to Biomega (who just showed their Bamboo Bicycle at Taipei), go hire this guy! Sorry RossLovegroove, I’m a huge fan, but this kid just smoked your bike.
