Want This Chair
Posted in Art, Furniture on November 13, 2008 by thewantblogSomewhat creepy, and somewhat intoxicating is where the pieces from Vincent Darre new line Maison Darre set in my mind. Just like modern pieces, sometimes done from wall to wall, the look can be somewhat overwhelming. But this chair (below) for instance is a killer piece, and almost has more impact when pulled away from the other pieces in the collection. I in-vision it in a bedroom as seating for a vanity. The mirror is also a cool piece. Perfect for an entry way. OK time for one bad joke about the mirror. “I can see myself in your pelvis.” Seriously. The pieces are awesome. You can check out more here. If you read French, even better, cause I slept in that class.
Want This Leg Splint
Posted in Interior Accessories on November 11, 2008 by thewantblogCharles & Ray Eames designed the Leg Splint for the U.S. Navy in 1942. By the end of the war over 150,000 were produced. DWR LTD got their hands on one from what looks like the first production run, and are offering it up for bid today 12 noon. If you are in any way interested in modern design and it’s history, this splint is or should be on the top of your want list. There is only one available, so get on it!

Want This Chair
Posted in Chairs, Furniture on November 5, 2008 by thewantblogThere are quite a few benefits to being in the design industry. One is being able to see new and soon to be released products at places like ICFF. The other is getting personal tours of showrooms like Herman Miller. I had the pleasure of visiting their showroom today, and they were excited to show me the new Embody Chair. All I can say is WOW! When it comes to task chairs Herman Miller has in my opinion cornered the market with the Aeron and Mirra Chairs. But since their introduction, there have been other companies out there trying to elbow their way in. The Embody chair totally knocks the competition back about 5 years. I know that’s a bold statement, but I was convinced once I sat in the new chair. Designed by Jeff Weber and the late Bill Stumpf, the chair continues to push design envelope by being flexible, firm and supportive. It also features a wide seat for your ba-donk-a-donk. There is always a bit of adjusting with most task chairs and often times you’re left wanting just a bit more in some areas. When I was shown how to adjust the Embody, it fit me like a bespoke suit. I haven’t uttered those words about a chair in years. In addition to all of that, the chair is 95 percent recyclable, has 42 percent recycled content, and contains no PVCs. Another reason to be a bit more impressed about this chair. We don’t even carry the chair, but I hope we pick it up for our assortment for 2009.
Want This Bed Set
Posted in Furniture, Interior Accessories on October 25, 2008 by thewantblogI love the concept Variegated. They are small company that is re-purposing old men’s suit fabrics into bed sets. The set include a bed cover, duvet, and a pair of pillow cases. Since they are made of old suit fabrics, no two sets are ever the same, giving you a unique set. This would be a great compliment to Nest Bed Linens offered at DWR. The Veriegated collection appears to be a nod to some of the fabrics Paul Smith has been creating for a while now, and are often used on large upholstered goods like a piece we carry called the Bottoni Sofa. Variegated is currently offering their sets through West & Green in Brooklyn NY.

Want This Chair
Posted in Furniture on October 23, 2008 by thewantblogDesigned first in 1940, the Eames Lounge Chair Wood (LCW) is truely a classic. This is one of my favorite pieces at home. It’s petite, comfortable and beautiful. The Cowhide version until now has been very difficult to get ahold of. If you want one you better get on it. Herman Miller will be producing 500 limited edition pieces. This chair will set you back $2000.00 I am placing my order today! This is a must have for any collector of modern furniture.
